BENEDICTINE SISTERS OF PITTSBURGH

2022 JUBILARIANS

Sister Judith Ann
Criner, OSB

50th Jubilee

As a Benedictine woman, Sister Judith Ann Criner sees her life as a dedication and giving of service to others who need whatever assistance she can give.  To quote sister: “This is one of the major reasons that I have presently pursued the IFC certification in Life Coaching.”

Sister is a native of Jeannette, Pa., and her early years were influenced by her mother’s strong pillars of commitment to God, family, Church, and service. Since her entrance into the Benedictine Sisters of Pittsburgh on August 29, 1967, Sister has experienced a variety of ministries in education, healthcare, Director of the Benedictine Senior Center, and established the Development and Public Relations Office of the Benedictine Sisters. Presently, Sister Judith is a member of the Benedictine Council, a healthcare director for the Benedictine Sisters, as well as archivist and life coach.

Over her 50 years in community, Sister Judith has enjoyed reading, photography, good movies and being with family and friends. Sister is celebrating her Golden Jubilee this year.

Sister Michele
Farabaugh, OSB
25th Jubilee

When you first meet Sister Michele (Shelly) Farabaugh, you are immediately taken by her passion for service with others.  Born in Carroltown, Pa., Sister Shelly is the ninth of 10 children.

Sister’s motto, “The Glory of God is a person fully Alive,” influenced her decision to enter religious life. This journey took her to the Benedictine Sisters in 1967 for three years. After she left the community, she ministered in Appalachia for several years before moving back to Pennsylvania for family reasons. Then, after 25 years, she returned to the Benedictine Community as a trained social worker and therapist.

For the past nine years you could find Sister at the Salvation Army Family Caring Center working with all configurations of families, helping them rebuild lives touched by trauma, mental health, substance abuse, and housing instability.

In working as a clinical social worker and as a member of a monastic community, Sister finds that her life and work are deeply joined. Sister Shelly is celebrating 25 consecutive years in community life.
