2023 JUBILARIANS

Sister Mary Catherine Seli, SC
80th Jubilee

Sister Mary Catherine Seli, SC entered the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill from Holy Innocents parish in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1943. Serving the majority of her career in education, Sister Mary Catherine’s transparent and simple life reflected her spiritual gifts to be a channel of God's goodness for others.

Throughout her religious life, she served in the Greensburg, Pittsburgh and Tucson dioceses and in the Archdioceses of Baltimore, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. She served as principal and vice-principal in several area schools, including St. Jerome School in Charleroi, St. Phillip School in Crafton, and St. Therese School in Munhall.

At her 80-year milestone anniversary, Sister still honors the founding principles of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill — humility, simplicity and charity — through her service and selflessness. She is thankful to God for her ability to serve in the capacities she has over her career.

Sister Miriam Richard Soisson, SC
75th Jubilee

In 1948, Sister Miriam Richard Soisson, SC entered the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill from Assumption Catholic Church in Bellevue, Pa. Celebrating her 75th year as a religious, Sister reflects on her ministries in education, administration, and counseling, particularly through teaching junior high students at St. Mary Magdalene in Homestead and serving as counselor in Chandler, Ariz. She says, “If I had to make a life choice again, I would choose religious life.”

Sister Miriam Richard found great reward in working with children, specifically in the counseling field. She valued the direct support she was able to provide to the students, families and teachers, and believed she was making a real difference in their lives.

Sister Miriam Richard continues living the charism of Mother Seton at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity, by managing the guild cards for the congregation. Her organizational skills and prayerful support continue to serve the community.

Sister Alice Ruane, SC
75th Jubilee

Celebrating 75 years of religious life, Sister Alice Ruane (Marie Timothy), SC is grateful for the life and opportunities to serve our God. She entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill from Resurrection Parish in Brookline, Pa., in 1948.

Sister Alice began a career in education that led her across the country and the world. Serving in Pittsburgh, Arizona and Korea, she has always been a passionate educator. Her tenure in Korea witnessed the opening of Saint Joseph Catholic School, where she taught music, English and folk dancing to students.

When she returned to the states, Sister assisted in the opening of Elizabeth Seton Center in Brookline, an intergenerational daycare facility serving young and old in the Pittsburgh area. Seton Center is still an active ministry today.

Reflecting on her life, Sister says, “God himself gave me the grace to understand my mother’s words about our creator, from my seven older siblings and their shared stories. The Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill helped my spiritual life deepen.”

Sister Moonkyung
Park, SC
25th Jubilee

Sister Moonkyung Park’s journey began at Oncheon-Dong Parish in the Busan Diocese of South Korea. When she came to the United States in 1994 for graduate studies, she found her call to religious life and to the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill.

Sister Moonkyung has ministered for most of her consecrated life as a hospital chaplain in the United States. For five years, however, she worked in Korea as a clinical pastoral education supervisor. She currently lives out the charism of the Sisters of Charity in West Islip, N.Y., by serving patients, their loved ones, and her colleagues with prayerful presence and compassion.

Sister Moonkyung says that the most rewarding aspect of religious life has been her growth in faith and prayer, her deepening experience of God, and the support of her community. For many years, she had a serious health issue for which there seemed to be no viable treatment. In 2022, however, through a sister in Korea, God led her to a world-renowned liver surgeon. The surgery was successful, and she was miraculously and fully restored to health.
