Sister Mary Hurley, HM
80th Jubilee

Sister Mary Hurley, formerly Sister Ellen Francis, is celebrating 80 years in the HM Community, entering in 1945 from St. Ignatius Parish in Cleveland, Ohio.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minn.; and a master’s degree from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.

Sister taught at Central Catholic High School in Canton, Lourdes Academy in Cleveland, and Magnificat High School in Rocky River. Her ministry continued as an outreach worker with youth and senior residents on Cleveland’s Near West Side.

Her work championed education rooted in justice and peace, leading to meaningful advocacy and action at several organizations, including the Cleveland Sisters Coalition for Justice; the Rio Grande Valley Border Witness Program; Camino a la Paz; and the Rapid Response Network of the Cleveland InterReligious Task Force on Central America.

As a staff assistant at Common Ground-the Cindy Nord Center for Renewal in Oberlin, Ohio, Sister Mary shared her passion for the Great Story of Earth — the root and nourishment of all life.

Sister Mary currently serves as part of the HM Ministry of Prayer at Villa Maria Community Center in Villa Maria, Pa.

Sister Marguerite Holz, HM
70th Jubilee

Sister Marguerite Holz is commemorating 70 years of religious life with the HM Community, entering from Holy Family Parish in Parma, Ohio.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from Notre Dame College in Cleveland; a master’s degree in education from Akron State University; and a master’s degree in pastoral studies from Loyola University in New Orleans, La. In addition, she received a certification in spiritual direction from the Jesuit Renewal Center in Milford, Ohio.

Sister Marguerite ministered in education in multiple capacities as a teacher and assistant principal at schools in the Diocese of Youngstown. She worked in diocesan offices in both Cleveland and Youngstown, and held positions at Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson, Ohio; the Maria Stein Center in Maria Stein, Ohio; and the Diocesan House of Prayer in Youngstown.

She devoted 23 years to spiritual direction and retreat ministry at Villa Maria Community Center, Retreat Center and Education & Spirituality Center in Villa Maria, Pa. She also volunteered at St. Angela Merici Parish in Youngstown.

Today, she serves in the HM Ministry of Prayer at Villa Maria Community Center in Villa Maria, Pa.
